Coalition to lobby for eco-friendly comminution
The Coalition for Eco-Efficient Comminution (CEEC) was recently established by industry players to raise awareness of strategies to lower energy consumption and processing costs.
The CEEC said in a statement that energy usage from crushing and grinding accounts for at least half of total energy consumption for many sites and went up to 90% in some cases.
Chairman Elizabeth Lewis-Gray said a growing body of research highlights alternative flowsheet and technology strategies that could enable industry to curtail consumption.
The Coalition’s website hosts a range of key research papers, and profiles consultants and researchers who specialize in the field of comminution design. The site will highlight additional data and information as it becomes available, Lewis-Gray said.
Owen Hegarty, mining industry personality, has been appointed founding patron. “CEEC is an excellent technical initiative aimed at helping to deliver minerals and metals from our great mining industry with disciplined energy efficiency,” he said.
On the CEEC blog, Lewis-Gray wrote “I have only just discovered the big impact of comminution on the mining industry … finding relevant information on this topic was like finding a needle in the haystack.
“It felt like peeling an onion, and the tears of frustration continue! Even having researched the issue broadly now for a full year, I still do not have all the answers I want or need to make decisions around this important topic.”
